“What does everyone in the travel industry need to be able to do?” – we asked the assembled judging panel and industry peers at the Web In Travel conference in Singapore. “Get paid” was the answer.
Troovo is pleased and excited to have taken home the prestigious WIT 2017 Start Up of the Year award at the annual event hosting the best and brightest of the global and APAC travel, technology and investor communities. Troovo’s pitch was focused on our new virtual payments module, which enables travel agencies, corporations, intermediaries, partners and suppliers to fully leverage the huge potential of virtual payments within their operations.
40 entrants from around the world had a go at the title, the largest ever group of entries. The top 10 were picked by an esteemed panel of judges, who then were invited to Singapore to pitch them in person. 5 short minutes were all that we were given to get our pitch across in front of those same judges. From the final 10 the judges then had to come up with a short-list of 3 to go on to pitch in front of the entire WIT audience at the end of the conference. Just to make that short list was a huge boost for us and we were very happy to be through to the finals!
We also were thrilled and humbled at being voted by the audience at the first day’s Start Up Bootcamp as the Industry Choice Award winner, which is a huge validation from our peers for which we’re also very excited about. The Industry Choice was determined by a vote from everyone present in the audience at the Bootcamp and which represented many investors, entrepreneurs and fellow start-up leaders and innovators. A big thank you to everyone for their endorsement!
Following the short-list, we then had a day and a half to simmer on what was yet to come. After a few tweaks, the Troovo team of CEO Kurt Knackstedt and Chief Solutions Officer Tarik Sedlarevic pulled out all the stops at our final pitch in front of several hundred people to showcase the power of our virtual robot in driving payments to a whole new level.
At the close of the event, on pins and needles, hearing the announcement of Troovo as the winner from David Zimmer, Global Head of Product and Innovation from the award’s sponsor Travelport, was an amazing feeling for us. We see it is a validation of the power of robotics to help transform our industry and we’re excited to be taking this big step forward. Many thanks to WIT for hosting an amazing event, to Travelport for sponsoring us, and to the judges and industry peers who supported our pitch. Watch this space – 2018 will truly be a break-out year for Troovo!
